I'm replacing my drivers side front CV axle. I was wondering if anybody had some tips or any advice before I did it. My main concern was breaking anything else and spending more than it would cost to just take it to the stealership.

start here. very easy to do but kind of dirty.

 

Some tips that may or may not be in the manual.
To loosen the nuts holding the axle to the diff flange either get someone to stand on the brakes, or do it with the wheels on the ground. The first method is much easier because at some point you have to rotate the shaft to get all the nuts. Btw those nuts are tight.

The cone washers can be fun. I found the best method is hit the outside of the hub, medium hard. You don't want to hit it hard enough to dent it. And leave the nuts on the end of the studs a thread or 2, the cone washers tend to fly off at Mach 3, and they're a pita to find again.

To get the shaft out remove the 4 bolts attaching the lower ball joint, under the lower control arm, and then pry the ball joint from the arm. That'll let you pull the knuckle out far enough to remove the outer shaft.

 

The trick to cone washers is a brass drift. I never have issue with mine. Takes all of 30 seconds to get them all off.
