replace 3.0 with 22r?
i just purchased a 91 4 runner with a blown engine and i happen to have an 89 2wd pickup sitting in my driveway, the 4 runner is nice but has a blown engine, the 89 is ugly and beat to crap. my question is what would it take to put the 22r in the 4 runner? thanks in advance.

A lot of work, but it can be done. Your sensors obviously are different so yuo will be into your wiring a bit. Your exhausts are obviously different as are the ECUs. The V6 wiring harness may or may not just plug right into the 22R ECU. Not sure either if the V6 tranny housing will bolt up to the 4cyl.
I've not done the swap personally but those are all issue you'll need to address and plan for.

well, there was just a post on TTORA of someone wanting to go the other way (22RE to 3VZE - I know, I know :rolleyes
Let's see here...
- as mentioned above, the wiring harnesses are different
- the engine won't bolt to the bellhousing, so you'll need to replace the transmission
- your transmission is 2WD, so you won't be able to put a transfer case behind it.
- If you get a transmission that will bolt to the 4cyl, it won't accept your current tcase (unless you are lucky enough to find a turbo)
- since the engine/transmission/transfer case are all different, your driveshafts will have to be lengthened.
I'm sure there are other things too.
If it were me, I'd be ALL OVER a 3.4 swap.
