removing front bumper

I have the chilton's manual and I looked for instructions on removing the front bumper. They were pretty lame. I'm stumped on step two: looking for fasteners holding the bumper in place. You'd think there would be a diagram in the manual showing you every fastener.

Where are all the fasteners holding the bumper in place? As far as I can see, there's only 2 at the tip of each end of the bumper. Seems kinda lacking. I'm sure there's more.

I need to take off my bumper to straighten it out and get it repainted. Previous owner(s) hit something and bent it a bit.

So, what's the vehicle? That would help a bit.

Please don't take this the wrong way but if you are not intuitively mechanically inclined enough to remove the bumper...you should get some help.

Should be no more than about 8 bolts.

The two at the bumper ends... and 4 on the frame. If you've got a 90-95 4runner/pickup.
I'm with wabbit though. maybe... you should take it somewhere

bah, paint's over-rated anyway...

haven't fooled with the bumper on my pu just yet, so I'm no help to ya, sorry...

easiest way I can think of... try to find some pics online or somewhere of either an oem replacement or stock bumper for whatever year pu or runner you have. look and where the bolt-holes are, and vualla, you know where the bolts are...

but like other's are saying, I don't think I would tackle the job of removing something if I couldn't figure where the bolt are even at... no offence...

I looked and saw (what I thought) were all the bolts. I just wanted to come here and be sure. I don't want to get 50% through removing the bumper only to find there's something else snagged/holding it together. I just wanted to consult others before I attempt to dive into a new project.

It's an 89 toyota pickup that I'm fixing the bumper on. I've done a bumper replacement on a '99 chevy silverado and ended up breaking some plastic rivets. That's mainly why I'm here, so I don't break anything in the process of prying and pulling.

all these guys are right... if you wanna make it easier on yourself, you could always pull off the bumper ends first... at least if you have the bumper ends... they are held on by three bolts through the main bumper piece, and one bolt in the inner fenderwell...
fyi, put the corner bumpers on last if you have them... when i put on my light bar, i didnt do that, and just put the bumper back on, but the bolts in the inner fenderwell didnt line up and i ended up having a frowny face bumper... by the time i figured out what was wrong, the threads on the studs were buggered up and now i have this squeek/rattle in my front end...

Are these the bolts I'm looking for? Or am I supposed to remove all of those little pain-in-the-ass screws that I'm about to just yank off the thing?

I'm trying to straighten the bumper so I can put this bull bar I got to use.

Remove the 4 14mm bolts holding the two main mounting brackets (middle of bumper/ frame) (second picture you posted)

And the bolt on each side holding the bumper to the inner fender..

All thouse little bolts hold the lowervalance to the bumper...

Is this the bolt (single bolt?) that has a rubber shock absorber thing?

here is link to some Online Toyota Factory Service manuals:
http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/index.html

The first one you will find there is for 1985-94 Trucks,
This version contains a single 1025 page PDF file covering maintenance of the engine, drive-train, brake, steering, body and air conditioning systems.
it is a 58 MB down load. You will find the pictures, instructions you need there....

only bull bar out there is an ARB, westin's don't count

the Chilton manual I have has more info than the FSM. The FSM has absolutely no info for removing the front bumper. Actually, the FSM has almost no info for outside cosmetics.

I got the bumper off anyway with a whole bunch of grabbing and shaking. Whatever felt like it was bolted on came off. Only 8 bolts total. Took about an hour, but should I need to remove it in the future it will only take 10 minutes.

Never got to repaint it, but i did straighten it out. And I didn't rewire my secondary headlights, which is just incentive for me to remove the bumper again in the near future to repaint it and rewire it. Gives me something to do on another weekend.
