Removing engine question
My first attempt to remove my 22re. do I need to do anything to the tranny besides remove the bolts connecting it to the motor? Once I have the bolts out and everything else unhooked I pull the motor foward and lift out?

you should either put a jack stand under it to hold it up if its gonna sit still or use a ratchet strap run across under it to support the tranny if its gonna be moved. also life will be easier if you jack the tranny up some when removing/installing the motor. the starter bolts hold the motor and tranny together too in case you didnt remove it.

nope. Just make sure the tranny is supported when the motor comes out or the front will droop majorly and be hell on your mounts the motor holds the weight of the front of the tranny. when i did mine i used a ratchet strap from frame rail to frame rail under the tranny to support it then pulled the motor. tranny doesnt need to move at all. just lift up and forwards on the motor and it come out with some massaging as long as everything is disconnected. you can use a flat bar or pry bar from the drivers side to get in between the motor and tranny and start to get it coming apart while you have tension on it with the lift. its much easier to do with two people.

yea it makes for much more room when working and lets you pull the motor forward enough to get it away from the transmission. and its only 4 bolts. drain it, remove the hoses pull the shroud off (if you have one, i dont) and remove the 4 bolts. then itll lift right out easy as pie. depending on your funds you could take it to a radiator shop to get freshened up and make sure it doesnt have any leaks and whatnot. i didnt have mine serviced but its just one of those while you are in there might as well do it, if ou have the money of course, me being 17 did not.
