removing ac?
okay so my 4runner is just about ready to have the rebuilt motor dropped in and i was wondering if there were any benifits to removing all of the ac stuff. The 4runner is my winter rig and i daily drive a motorcycle in good weather.
87 turbo 4runner BTW.

Removing it will save you some weight, probably 35lbs at best and will free up some horsepower since the compressor will be removed. I removed the A/C on my old Integra Type R. Had a supercharged B18...had no need for A/C. I couldn't really tell the weight was gone, but could definately feel the freed up horsepower.

You need the A/C then
Or what if she says "Hey baby lets go wheeling" on a hot summer night ????

If it works good why take it off? Whats to gain by removing it unless it doesn't work?
If you do decide on removing it you should get some shorter bolts because the bolts that normally go through the bracket and timing chain cover will be too long. Just go to your local drealership and have them print out a diagram of the timing chain cover. You will see that there are 2 different bolt options for those holes.

Important ??????
Not to the engine it isn't and to be honest it doesn't make that big of a emissions difference either , I know alot of peeps that live in northern Va that pass sniffer without them all the time , remove it and it will increase your mileage and give you a tad of high rpm pep.

I have heard that claim about temps but it is like the Ozone , depends on who you want to lean with because the evidence of that is marginal at best .
