Remove and replace fuel pressure regulator 3vze

Does anybody know of any way to take out the fuel pressure regulator without removing the plenum? I really don’t want to remove it and open a can of worms.

Nope, can't do it. You have to lift the plenum a little so that the FPR can make a complete turn.

But ... why? FPRs do fail, but not often. Why are you replacing yours? And why do you have worms under your plenum?

I had a rich code, code 26. My 02 sensors were graphing properly on a scope. I applied vacuum to the FPR and it wouldn’t hold vacuum and my hand pump smelled like gas. Luckily I went to tear into it and wouldn’t you know? My dad, the previous owner, ground the corner of the manifold that was in the way of the FPR. He claims he replaced it over 20 years ago. I was happy about that because it only took like 10 minutes to do. The part that is ground down is covered by the bracket for the throttle cables. It’s not noticeable and the manifold still works. I guess it’s not stupid if it works.

After I replaced the FPR got a code 25, lean condition. Well I was a dumbass and I didn’t have the right side of the VAFM connector seated right. The wire popped off when I plugged it back in. Put about 100 miles on it since. My fuel economy increased and now I don’t have that check engine light coming back on.

This might help some one in the future too. I put a small screw driver in the end of the fuel stub of the FPR and bent it so that it cleared. Went on just fine, then bent it back down.
