rebuilt 3vze crate engine with headers and code 52
Hello everyone, I am new to the 3vze and I have an issue... I have a 1995 sr5 4runner and blew a head gasket on the original 3vze, and from what I read that is a common issue. So I went ahead and bought a rebuilt 3vze long block and had Doug Thorley headers installed along with a new knock sensor, ks pig tail and ECU. I am also running Shell Super Unleaded and STP octane booster at every tank fill.
My truck runs strong on start up and idle but my issue starts about 5 to 10 miles in, that's when the check engine light comes on and my engine loses power... code 52. Heavy Sigh. When I shut the truck off and wait a quick couple of seconds the check engine light stays off for a few more miles and... check engine light and loss of power...code 52
Timing is spot on at 10* and again, the truck runs strong and smooth until I am about 10 miles in. Is this an air fuel mixture issue due to the increased compression from the boring, grinding and milling of the rebuild? Looking for the correct fix
Thanks for your time and efforts. Lanjussle

There's a pretty good and long thread about code 52 (knock sensor) here...

Just to make it clear: code 52 has NOTHING to do with whether your rig is knocking. Octane, timing, carbon build up: all wrong answers. Code 52 means the ECU 'hasn't heard from' the knock sensor, so it dramatically retards the timing to save the engine. Because the ECU doesn't know and can't tell.

Connectors
I have the exact same problem with my truck so I've removed the connection from the knock sensor harness and I am tracking back across the top of the radiator into the huge harness that leads into the ecm. What I'd like help on is where can I find the new male connector that runs into the KS harness? And what type of shielded wire should I buy to repair this? Thanks!
