rearch springs?

ok my rear springs need lots to be desired. po had a big block chevy engine stored in the back for 5 years.(kinda fricken heavy) anyway it has a bad case of draggin ass

http://s88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...icture0061.jpg

so my question would be : if i put a 6 ton bottle jack between the spring and the frame and jacked it up to full spring droop and left say for a week could that rearch the spring? i know the flames are coming so bring it on.

Doubt that would do anything. Usually you have to take the springs off, and have each leaf re-arched individually and have the springs reinstalled.

This would be easier and much more effective:

I plan on doing it myself...very soon.

Unless you do the fab work yourself, you can contact "ZUK" on this site for a kit. Nice fellow.

oh yeah i have a full shop at work including laser and water jet cutting machines , mig, tig, and arc welders and computerized grinding machines. although a 5 axis water jet would be sweet.

Very cool! I don't know what a 5 axis water jet is, but I sure wish I had access to a shop as that. Or even just a little one of my own with a few fab tools.

Post a pic when you do the deed, if you would.

I have a question . . .

Can you still wheel with the coil over leaf lift? I see people talk about this fix to saggy rears, but never see anyone with pictures of vehicles on the trail. I know that one 4runner on that site looked offroad ready, but never any action pictures. I think it would be very stiff and not fflex well or possibly come off under flex.

There's a link to the original thread at 4x4wire on that write-up...high lighted in blue. There's some discussion about that.

It's a pretty quick read, though. The info you are looking for is there. Might even sign up over there to get more details from those who have done it.

Yes!!!!!!!!! Way cool! I've been hunting down info on what kind of springs different folks have used. I called a 4x4 shop today and they wanted $50 for a set of used TJ springs. Unnggg! I'm going to call around at salv. yards and start asking for some.

Are those working well for you? What did you pay?

I've read all of Zuk's thread a day or two ago and found it interesting myself. My leaf springs have a negative arch to it as well. My truck rides like a pulpwood truck because of that. I thought about trying some TJ springs myself instead of replacing the springs later.

It looks like you might get some used ones off of eBay for about 20-30 dollars after shipping. I've been tempted to bid on some just to try it.

If anyone else does this, I would be interested in how it works out. I have yet to see anyone do it on a Tacoma, but it looks like it would be the same thing.
