Those illustrations sure do make it look easy without the backing plate on!
I like to split the retainers and ABS rings with a die grinder halfway through and then split them with a chisel, so the axle isn't in danger of being effed.

why the hell did you post the bearing Seperator if we can't use it on the bearing? fail.....lol
we use a gas powered hydraulic splitter for our wood splitting needs....helluva faster than using an axe.
however i do have some pieces that aren't split that are a couple feet in diameter

my rear bearings are making no noise?!?!?
i never worked on em or anything, took my driveshaft off to see if it might be the problem (u-joints) and it wasn't...so i bolted it back up..went to a girl's house...and it never made a sound...and still isn't..got almost a hundred miles since it made any kind of racket..
