Rear spewing from the breather hole

My '88 pick up is for some reason blowing the rear-dope out the top of the chunck (breather hole is what I'm calling it) . anyone able to tell me why this is happening?

Rear brakes, rear end, rear main seal, rear transmission seal, rear transfer case seal, rear of the engine? Could you be a bit more descriptive of the problem and where it is?

Did you get any water in it.
I've seen 'em blow pretty good when they try to cook the water out.

Crack the fill plug and look inside. If it looks like a milk shake you have water in there. The gears turn the oil/water into foam. As the air bubbles build up and the foam expands it has nowhere to go but out the breather.

Go in any deep water lately?

Can't say that I have been in any deep water in the last year. I drive this truck daily. Has 385,000 on the meter. I noticed the smell of gear oil about a month ago. Took a look to see where it was coming from and noticed it dripping from the under side of the bed. Guess I'm just dumb struck as to why it would be blowing the oil out. I'll take a deeper look into it in a bit and post my findings. Thanks guys

did the little cap come off of the breather?

or maybe the breather got plugged, so that the rear end would build up pressure when hot, then spew out.

it doesn't have cap or a hose connected to it. Should it have the hose ?

I installed a hose on my front and rear diff, but if you never get into deep water it should be fine without it. They do tend to clog up though.
