Hey there all, i just got my first truck on friday, a 94 xtra cab 4x4 22re, i love the truck its in great shape for its age, its just ugly right now, it has bald tires but those are soon being replaced with some BFG AT's next weekend, so im hoping that'll help things out a little, but anyway on to my main problem:

the truck has a slight sag in the rear of it not horribly bad, but its enough to get under my skin, its really bothering me. I'm only 16 but ive been lurking here for a while and i have a good basic knowledge of these toyotas now, i know that there is add-a-leaf, is this the best option to go with or should i consider other alternatives? about how much $$$ should add a leaf run me?

My two cents, and that's all this really is, is that you save some $ and pick up a kit from Old Man Emu, or something similar, and do both sides with new springs and shocks. It's better to get in there and do it all in one shot instead of doing one side, then the other later on.

Hey man!I got the same truck doing the same thing.I'm gonna put new leaf springs under it!I hear this is the right way to fix it & JCWhitney has aset 4 $150.I hear the add-a-leafs dont raise it much & make it ride real stiff even w/o a load!Hope this helps & by the way nice truck!!!Wish I had a truck like that when I was 16.

 

lift shackles are cheap and effective

 

thanks for all the response, all of these will be considered, the OME kit is a bit pricy, but i could do it after savin up for a while, i will also look into the shackles

are the shackles as long term a solution as an OME kit??

 

thanks man i appreciate it, yeah i've been on the hunt for an xtra cab 4x4 in this body style for a while now, im really glad i found one with the 22re in it over the 3.0

 

definately. 4runners r the worst for sagging. i fixed mine with shackles. $15 for a kit at autozone and as long as bolts come loose easily it'll take less than 20 min

 

dont have much to say bout ur prob as my thoughts have already been mentioned jus wanted to say nice first truck wish mine had been that nice haha

 

jus so ya know my thoughts were shackles and nice 1st gen hjkmotor

 

i too will probably do the JCwhitney leafs and probably a little bit longer shackles...

or new OME-2"-3" lift springs..lol

 

go with the lift shackles, it will solve the problem, i bought adjustable ones so that way i could adjust it to the height i needed. very easy to do.

yeah the shackles i have are adjustable. my truck actually rakes a little cuz of the shackles. i just need to re adjust them.

so i just go up to autozone and ask for some lift shackles on a 94 toyota 4x4?

to rephrase, is there any particular length/size i should be asking for?

like i said im only 16 and not very mechanically inclined but i love these toyotas, so be easy on my noobiness

 

yeah. or advance auto parts. just go to the towing section and there should be a box that is the shackle kit. from my past experience theres a chance if you ask someone behind the counter they wont know what ur talking about so go look for it.

its super easy as long as you know how to turn a wrench. just dont forget to support the truck with stands.

 

alright, haha yea i can turn a wrench, and i've heard some pretty funny stories about some of the spaceheads that work at auto parts stores on here,

this sounds like a weekend project for me and my dad,
after i get my BFGs put on,

as you can tell from my pictures, the sag isnt horrible
just a bit,

will these shackles give my truck that good clean level look?

if i get the adjustable ones, how will i know which level hole to use?

the shackles from the autoparts store have three different holes to adjust. when i did mine i just set it to the center hole and went from there. mine was fine there but if it doesn't work you can still adjust up or down. i wouldn't suggest doing it but there is enough space between the holes to drill more holes if you want to dial it in but i wouldn't think it would be an issue anyway.

 

Wow a 94 with a 22re is a really good find. To be honest, once you throw some 31's on that thing you probably won't even notice the sag. But i would go with the shackles to keep your ride soft. Although i put rear add a leafs on my old 86 4runner and they really didn't make the ride that rough, $50 from suspension connection.
