No one makes air shocks for the rear of the 1st gen, I've dug and dug on it.. I actually considered making a kit at one time just to deal with this issue.

Get the add-a-leaf, I've had mine on for 6 months - no sag, it actually rides better now that the spring isn't sitting on the overload.

It's cheap, it works, and it rides well.

For more ambitious 4wd, you'll need to do something else - something with a longer spring. The entry level recommendation would be 1/2 ton Chevy springs, with an add-a-leaf. They're longer, flexy, and will lift you a few inches.
I had an '89 for many many many years. I am painfully familiar with that suspension. I was clarifying a previous statement regarding my set up hence my opening line, "Just to clarify...".

You are one of the few I have seen have good luck with AAL's. I have had zero luck and ran 3-4 different ones in my old 4runner.

As for air shocks, contact www.shockshopusa.com and see what they can do. Just because no one bothered to list an air shock in a catalog does not mean one does not exist. Someone would just need to look up the shocks by compressed/extended length and type of mounting as opposed to type/year of vehicle.

What I ended up doing was buying 1.25-1.5" lift shackles. We'll see what they do when they're on. I got the greasables too. Paid $73 shipped including bushings.
