Had mine replaced on my 4runner and it cost me about $400. It requires the pulling of the transmission.

Looking for advice of someone that actually has done it themselves. I guess if you have to pull the tranny its simple, thats what I have to do. I don't want to pay that much labor $$$ for a $15 seal. Thanks though

Replacing the actual seal is a cake walk, its all the work to expose it that sucks. Do it before the oil ruins the friction matterial on your clutch.

yep, easy job once you get the tranny and flywheel out of the way. there's an aluminum housing that the seal is in, unbolt it, pull it off, and replace the seal.

might not be a bad idea to get a seal-n-sleeve kit and sleeve the crank so if it's got a groove worn into it, though.

When you're dealing with the seal removal be sure to take extreme care not to damage the scratch any part of the housing that makes contact with the seal. You invite future leaks if you scratch that inner part.

im about to do mine right now... and not sure if any of you know Marlin of Marlin Crawler... but he responded to a post that said stay away from the speedy sleeve and had a solution psoted.... "Do not use a seal sleeve, it will always leak.

I always prefer a Toyota seal.

After the old seal is removed, check for a worn groove on the crankshaft hub.
Always lightly sand the crank hub with 400 sand paper and if there is a wear groove, I belt sand the rear face of the new seal until the metal shows thru the rubber, and then install the seal.
This will allow the seal to sit deeper and contact on the good area of the crank.

Do not hammer directly on the seal. I use a metal ring that fits the o.d. off the seal to hammer against.

Always prelube the seal with a good grease and be careful not to over install [distort] the seal by hammering against the seal when it is bottomed out in the seal bore."
