Rear Leaf Springs - 1993 Ext. Cab 4x4

I have a 1993 Ext. Cab 4x4. I want to replace my rear leaf springs but don't know a whole lot. I am trying to get my truck to ride smooth........the ride is really bad. It shakes and bottoms out over small speed bumps and uneven surfaces over the road.

I have already replaced the shocks with Rancho 5000s but they dont seem to being doing much help. (They really suck IMO.)

I am at the point now where I think by replacing the leaf springs that might help. (The current springs are factory and have never been replaced....they actually look straight instead of curved.)

So should I go with factory replacements or should I go with aftermarket springs. I am on a tight budget since I am getting other things fixed on it right now (2 CV axles, new brakes, 2 new manual hubs, new timing belt, valve cover gaskets, new plugs and wires, plus labor.....you guys get the point.)

Any recommendations is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I would get some OME (Old Man Emu) Medium duty Springs, and DITCH the Rancho 5000's ASAP. The Rancho 5000's are firm shocks according to many, which won't suit your requirements. As for shocks I would get OEM (Stock) Toyota replcement shocks. They are on the softer side and give an excellent ride, only they do allow a bit more body roll than some but the trade off is they offer a softer ride.

Are you sure it's the rear causing the rough ride?

Well I think the rear has something to do with it. The leaf springs need to be replaced that I can see (they are straight no arch at all). My mechanic said something about the torsion bars on these trucks that it could probably be loosen a bit......he said the springs might help and from the looks they probably should be replaced.

What is the ZUK Mod? Never of of this......

the ZUK mod is a jeep coil spring on top of the rear leaf spring. Search the forums for ZUK mod

If you can weld, go with a longer set of leaf packs. Like 63" chevys, you can remove a leaf or two to make it stock height, and it will ride like a caddy

Well just ordered OME (Medium Duty) leaf springs for the rear and all 4 OME shocks (OMEN94 soft for the rear) and 1.5 Ball Joint Spacer for the front. Total came out to $733.00. So hopefully that will solve my rough riding problems. What do you guys think about my setup going forward?
