I'm rebuilding a 1992 Toyota Pickup extra cab 4x4 V6. I'm looking to convert the rear drums to disk. I do not see an emergency brake with the kit. Has anyone done this conversion? If so, does the emergency brake work?
What kit are you talking about? There are a dozen companies making disk brake conversions. If the caliper you use doesn't have a parking brake, then you won't have a parking brake. Many kits have no provision for a parking brake so you'll need to use a transfer case brake.
completed 1984 Toyota rear disk/disc conversion with parking brake
I just completed the rear disc conversion on a 1984 chassis. Thanks to this site with the write ups and photos especially, it was relatively easy. The kit I bought from 4 Wheel Drive Manufacturing and was made by Sky Mfg. I ordered everything from 4WD Mfg - kit, rotors and calipers with the e-brake provision - knowing some alterations and manufacturing of brackets and such would be needed. No use repeating what is already on the site about brake conversion, but here are pictures of what I did for e-brake adaption.
The top bracket goes between the bump stop and the top of the springs - notice the hole for the spring centering bolt. The lower bracket pivots on the bolt on the upper bracket. It allows the stock parking brake cable to pull 90 degrees around the spring bump stop. Here is a view of the two parts mounted. Now need linkage between bracket and e-brake hardware on calipers Top view of same
The e-brake linkage 1/4 inch ready rod/all-thread and a 1/4 inch linkage for like carburetor. If it breaks will go to 5/16 inch. Here is another view but is missing the 1/4 inch locknut for slack adjustment.

This is the "expensive" way to do it.
Full Floater rear axle in the process.
It uses the latest 4Runner rear disc brake with the drum parking brake.
Note that the price listed on the page is the UPGRADE cost.
You still have the ADDITIONAL cost of the Full Floater Kit
To say nothing of the parts you will need (IFS hubs, SFA stub, Brake Parts etc)
