So I started on my rear bumper tonight and I can't decide if I like it or if it's just plain ghey, I need some opinions,





This is my 2nd build over my slider and they turned out great but the bumper is gonna catch a little more attention so I won't it to be an eye catcher and serve as armour, any ideas?

 

Looks good to me. What wall thickness? Are you going to run braces from the sides to the frame?

It's 3/16 rectangular tubing, it's the same I built the sliders out of and they are very stout, and yes I'm going to run braces to the frame from the side I just have to get the angles right to go under the bed, it's nowhere nere complete I just wanted to give a picture and get some opinions.

 

Doesn't look bad! Personal opinion here, but where the bumper comes and runs down the sides behind the rear fender. I personally think it would look better if you ran it a little closer to the fender and angled it the way the fender goes...like 45 degrees up

Or run it completely to the fender and then do a 45 on the side where it accomodates for how the fender comes out

Just thoughts, still looks good and i like the sliders.

You mean 45 below the tail light for the wrap around? Or where it meets the wheel well? It's hard to see in the picture but where it meets the wheel well it's cut on a slope to match the fender, it's not quite a 45 tho

 

I didn't realized it was on a slope at the wheel well, but thats what i meant. Maybe something a little steeper like the angle on your sliders at the front of your rear wheel well.

 

I think itd look better if you cut the corners a lil so it matched the bed corners.more then welded flat metal over the hole

 

Yea I def need to work on the corners a little, the stick out way too far but it sure puts it at some tough angles to fab up, but maybe I can do it, and ill try to get the fender wells a little steeper before I cap everything off

 

Also if it were me, maybe make the step in the bumper come out some more, i like to have a firm foot on those suckers....but that might look bad visually unless the whole bumper came out that much.

 

I was trying to keep it as close to the body as possible to keep the approach angles as best as possible, but a step it a good idea, ill wish I woulda put it there once I bust my shin a time or two

Is that 2"x4" tubing or 3"x5" ???

Are you planning to fabricate your own brackets or some how attach it to the old ones??

I can see if your using it on the trails keeping it sucked in close.

The bottom line if you like it that is all that matters.

 

I'd make the sides a knife edge, eg cut the bottom and pinch the ouside to the inside. Maybe cut the top corner off the sides also and put a flat plate, eg so the line from the rear continues around. And like someone else said (I think?), bisect the corner and put a cover plate or get fancy and try to find the right arc that would round it off but that's alot of fiddly work

Looks good! can't complain if it does the job right

 

It's actually 1.5x4 tubing, and I'm gonna make my own brackets because the factory ones don't look strong enough, I just need to play with the corners more, thanks for all the help.
