maybe the ubolts are are from a flip kit. try putting the ubolts around the axle and the plate on top of the leaf springs.. and your bolt idea is ok. just make sure to get a proper replacement soon.. good luck man.

Thanks, Yotaman. I'm waiting on the right bolts. This trucks had enough of half arsed maintenance. I'm doing it right the first time. =) I can't have an axle fly off on the way out to the desert.

bb7110.
While you're in there, why not invest in a U-bolt flip kit?
If you do some wheeling it's a pretty trick mod that'll get you the new u-bolts you need and the new top plate. if you have access to a welder you're golden.

Autozone sells a pack of 4 ubolts with hardware for 14.99. They are flattop, and really long (like 16" lol), but I used them and cut them down when I did my Zuk coil mod. They say they are made for lift blocks, but they are threaded up high enough to use without them.

Wow - that's crazy!

Defintely replace those U bolts with the square ones ASAP - and get a center leaf alignment bolt set in there (dealer?). If you do the flip kit ($50 or so) you'll need to weld the shock mount tabs I believe.

Torque specs for the U bolts are 90 ft/lbs btw -I just did this on my ZUK mod.

Still concerned about the leaf in between the pack and the overload leaf - what the hell is that????

Just get good blocks and new U bolts. Looks like a make shift shim to reduce the drive shaft angle. Either way looks crazy.

I am guessing that since he posted this in April and there have been no more posts the issue has been resolved for awhile.
