Rear 3erd in front?

Can I put a 6cyl or a 4cyl pumpkin in my 84/85 front axel? Im looking to regear the front since there 4.11 and rear is 4.88, tring to find best way to do it. Figured if I could beef up the pumpkin while I was at it then go for it.

Yes. You can run ANY 8" Toyota 3rd member in the front.

Yep - automatic with factory 31's.

Two things to consider:
- using a rear (low pinion) third in the front is ~30% weaker due to being on the coast side of the gears
- the factory 4.88's have an offset pinion to keep the ring gear from being so thick, they are NOT regearable when you go to bigger tires later

Soooo, what I would recommend is a high pinion elocker out of an 80-series (mid to late 1990's) Landcruiser ... kinda hard to find and spendy though.

yeah either find a 4.10 or 4.88 3rd, or buy 4.88 gears and toss them in the front diff. Put a locker in at the same time. And do the marlin crawler front axle seals too.
