I have an 86 4runner automatic with a 22re. I've been a little confused about swapping thirds but if this is true which 2nd gen's would be compatible with my truck? And will it be completely bolt on? I will worry about lockers later.

 

is there any place you can find gears online? Would my truck have 4.88's from stock? and sorry im a bit confused what does taking the thirds out mean? thanks alot

im not sure if all but most that i have heard/seen have 4.88s. and auto 3.0 4runner that is stock with 31s have the 4.88s

 

can anyone show me what im looking for?

 

You can do the old fashion way which is to count the teeth on the ring and pinion and divide it. It should give you close to 4.88.
