radio problem...help

ok so the other day my radio started cutting out on me....the screen stayed on and i could use all the functions just no sound...i have an aftermarket stereo and it and off with every bump i make...its annoying...my truck is sitting in the driveway right now with the dash out...hopfully you guys can help...thanks

What brand is it? I would guess that it is just broken internally from large hits like coming down real hard on the suspention. If you smack it on the side when it is not working does it turn back on? If so, something probly got diconnected inside. If it is still under warranty you can call the manufacturer. I would call even if it wasnt.

How is it wired? Electrical tape? Crimped connectors?

probably a bad ground or poor connection somewhere, or as someone else said, an internal problem in one of your components...could be lots of things.

Mine did the same thing, turned out it wasnt fully seated when it was put in and the power wire came out.

Most likely 's one of your speakers or the wires going to them. If any of the speaker wires get grounded it will shut the audio portion of your deck off but the stereo will stay on. Check the wires from the deck to the speaker and look for any bare spots that could be grounding out.

Yes, good point. Alot of times people will wire them by just wrapping Electrical tape around the wires or they will use wire nuts, used for wiring a house.

They should have a very good crimp connection or be soldered together.
