R150F Transmission Going Out?

Hey ya'll I've owned a 92 toyota pickup with the v6 for about 3 years, when I first got it, it had bad sychros for 1st gear causing it to pop out of gear when trying to accelerate from a stop. Changed the trans fluid and it was a nasty white/grey color.

Now 2 years later, I've noticed the transmission has a whine under acceleration. All gears but 4th gear seems to not have it. I know it isn't my engine because if i press in the clutch it goes away, I can rev my engine in neutral and the whine isn't there. Read that it could be my input bearing taking a crap. Honestly I don't care, just wondering if I keep driving it will it grenade on me? Ive let the truck sit since I am unemployed.

I DO have a replacement transmission and 3.4 clutch waiting to be put in the truck but still waiting on smaller clutch parts and I have a job interview tomorrow. Deciding whether I take the truck or hitch a ride. I just don't want to deal with the trouble of having to be towed in case crap hits the fan.

as long as its not making a grinding noise you can still drive it. popping out of gear is usually a worn shifter bushing not a syncro issue.

You just never know My luck it would quit in the worse possible spot with no cell phone service.

Most likely it is another bearing It does not make the noise in 4th gear because 4th is a direct gear

When bearing start to wear the transmission does have a tendency to pop out of gear.

I drove one of these with a toothless input shaft in 4th from Kansas to Colorado Springs, CO . Another toothless input shaft took me from NYC to Peekskill, NY and there was nothing but busted gear teeth in case. So I see no reason it will not last a little longer.

Not cheap to fix by any means at all, just it got me home.

Wow you must be hard on transmissions!!

Then have really Good Luck!!

All it takes is one piece of metal to get jammed in the wrong spot speaking from experience .

Yes I agree, I just changed my shift bushing and have perfect shifting now. I also did a little right up with pictures so you could look at it if you wanted to. It's very simple.
