Quick U-Bolt Question

I'm about to order some blocks for the rear of my '88 4Runner
Just 1.5'' blocks to help w/ the rear sag
But the site I'm buying them from only has U-Bolts for 3''+ blocks, do I need new U-Bolts for a 1.5'' block or will the factory ones fit?
Thanks

The factory ones will not work. I bought a whole u-bolt and 2in block kit at auto zone for 30 bucks. then i spent 2 in nylock nuts to be sure they stayed on.

The factory U-Bolts would most likely not be long enough to work. I have heard some people do not reuse U-Bolts in the first place... and I won't comment on the blocks.

However, if the U-Bolts for 3" blocks are have enough thread, those should work for your 1.5" blocks... just cut off the extra thread after install.

Thanks guys
I know that nobody likes blocks, but for a 16 year old kid trying to fix some rear sag before he sells his rig in a few months, theres no reason to spend any more money

Technically, no, you are not supposed to re-use u-bolts. Most people do though. They do have a limited life. Everytime you loosen or tighten the bolts (especially over-torquing) it stretches the bolts... weakening them...to the point that they will one day snap

OK first I was barely able to use my original U-bolts with an Add-A-Leaf on my '88. So it wont work with a block. Also a short 1.5" block wont hurt anything. I Have a diesel full size with well over 400 pounds torque and it has a 1.5" block and has no problems. My cousin had a full size Chevy and wheeled the piss out of it with a 4" block and didnt have any issues. Never had or known anyone who had a problem with wheel hop, axle twist, etc. Just dont use the cheap aluminum ones. Get the cast iron and get some quality U-bolts. JC Whitney has blocks with U bolts for a good price. Or get the u bolts for 3" and they should have enough threads; tho u may want to cut them down to size. Ive bent and grinded U-bolts on rocks before. I had to cut them when I wanted to remove them.
