A quick tie rod question
Hey there-
I'm in the middle of re-doing my front end and have just taken my tie rods off. I have replacement rods, and the sleeves and the ends came seperate so that you have to put them together to make it the correct length. Here's the question:
The Haynes manual tells me that I should adjust the total length of the whole tie-rod unit to be 314mm. The Tie rods i took off of my truck were more like 360mm. Thats a large difference. I have no idea of the previous history of this truck of the last time the tie rods were changed if ever. The truck is a beater and steers and handle a bit rough, but i want to make it better not worse. I'm hesitant about putting back diffrent length rods. Any thoughts? Does any one have a FSM, that would have the proper length for the tie rods on an 89 toyota pick up 4x4? I'm waiting to put them on till I get a reply.
Thanks

You're going to want to get the truck aligned anyway, so make the rods with sleeves the same lengths as the ones you took off, and then once you can drive go get an alignment.
