Is it 4" or 4"x6" that are in the dash of my 94 pickup?

I'm looking at the Boston Acoustic S45. Does anyone know if these will fit and/or how they sound?

They have a little deal on there that will tell you what fits and what doesn't. Just enter the year/make/model and it will let you know what fits.

this is what crutchfield suggested, I'm just trying to get a second opinion. I've had other people tell me that the speakers in the dash are 4x6.

i have boston acoustic S35's in my dash....they sound awesome. I also have a set of boston acoustic 6x9's in the rear. Everything's run off a 4 channel kenwood amp. Sounds really clean. For the bass, i've got a pair of 10's.

I know that 2nd gen Runners have 4" speakers in the dash, can't speak for the pickups. I would assume that they are the same though...

I had thought they were 3.5", but havent looked around to replace them yet. But I need to since the pass one is blown.

Me, too. Fronts and rears. Still no base response to speak of. Prolly need a good sub to make any difference,, or some custom boxes for the back ( of a 4Runner, that is) to mount some 6x9's.

i mounted my 6x9's in the panels in the rear....had to cut them a little

Also had to dynamat the rear quater.

Used some wire loom to hide the gap between the speaker and the panel

Crutchfield doesn't really give a specific size for my '87. They show everything from 4" to 6"x9" as working in the same location. Obviously somethings not matching up. I guess I'll pull it apart. Is there some way that this could be added to the Toyota FAQ? I searched for it there and found nothing...

does anyone have a How-To written for getting the lower dash apart and replacing the headunit and speakers?

it's pretty easy...

remove the plastic cover around the ignition
take off the dash panel below the steering wheel (the one with the hood release)
unbolt the glove box
remove the panel that goes around the glove box
remove the little panel below the dash (the one that's in front of the shifter)
remove the heater control knobs
stick a flat blade screw driver into one of the slots in the heater controls and *gently* pry it off
you should then be able to remove the panel around the stereo
unbolt the brackets holding in the stereo and you should be all set

the 4 inch speakers wont fit exaclty right, you really need 4T sized, HTey have a slight offset in the rim that makes them fit up a little tighter, apparently pioneer seels them as 4T sized.
Someone said they got 4x6 in the dash, but I wonder how much difference teh oval makes.

They are 4" in the dash, but they are mounted in a little ported box. The box looks to be 4x6, so I bet they would fit - seems like I remember doing that with my '89.

Yeah, they are 4". But in my opinion, because of the size and location, you really do not get much sound. I recommend eliminating the dash speakers completely, and putting a component set in the doors, with the woofer low and the tweeter high. If you have an extra cab, mount a couple of 6 1/2s in the back storage panels. I run a MB Quart 6 1/2 component set in the front, and a set of 6 1/2 MB Quart coax's in the rear off of an Alpine amp for mids and highs. For bass, a 12" JLAudio 12W6 and a Phoenix Gold amp on the seat behind me. Some say that is a little much for a truck, but I love it. I say at least run a 6 1/2 component set in the doors off your deck. Bass can come from anywhere and it sounds good. Highs need to be in your face or else they just sound muffled. It takes a little fabbing, but you will be amazed.

4" sounds right, thats what they are in the front of my 4runner.....I'm so close to 1000 posts its killing me.... :cry:

I built pods for my 4runner and had JL 6 1/2's and tweets up front, the had a 10W2 out back. It sounded great. But in my reg cab I am going to stick with stock location on forgo bass. I want to be able to remove the doors and still have sound. Besides, my hearing might last a little longer.

I had an 8W6 in front of the shifter in my '89 ... It sounded FANTASTIC (good enough to win Daytona twice, Perry once, and place at the IASCA World Finals)

Main stage was JL Evolution VR 6.5 coax's in custom kickpanels.

Just replaced the front ones in my Runner..........dashes all the same, 4 " .......i went with Punch 4" in the front, 5 1/4 in the rear, which wasnt the stock size, and 2 " tweets in the headliner...........and as far as a sub, went with a fosgate 10" ported box with a phase 2 10" ............couldnt beat the price it was cost from a local shop that hooks it up!
