Post Quick 3VZE Timing Belt Question

Ok, so the Cam Timing Pulley's Marks match the Marks on the No. 1 Timing Belt Cover. If I turn it 360* they are 180* off so I am pretty sure these are correct. The Crank Pulley is at 0* also. Now the marks on the belt itself are not lined up with the marks on the Pulleys and the Cover. Should i mark the belt as it sits right now?(ran fine before HG went out) -- Or do I just pull the belt and put it back on with the belt markings in the correct place? (the timing belt only has 8600 miles on it, so i am reusing it)

Thanks for the response! Happy New Year!!

Katie

The marks on the belt aren't critical, they're there more for reference that the pulleys are set correctly. If you get an aftermarket belt they don't even have marks. You can also check that the distributor rotor is pointing to #1 when the #1 piston is at the top of the compression stroke. One other tip is make sure the driver side of the belt is as tight as you can get it. The first time I did mine I ended up one tooth off on that cam because the belt seemed to match the middle of a tooth. If that happens turn the cam slightly backwards, not forwards.

Happy New Year to you too

The marks on the belt are for initial installation only.(turn the engine over enough times and the belt marks will line up as well) Mark the direction of rotation on the belt and use the marks on the belt to reinstall. Just make sure your pulleys are lined up with their respective marks. After you tension the belt, turn over 2 revolutions and recheck timing mark alignment and belt tension.

Great, thanks for the prompt answer. I marked it just in case - so i will make sure they go on in the same spot they came off of.
