Question question - spool installation

Please let me know if any of you have good information about how to install spool in 8in V6 rear diff.

Please let me know the tools required to do this job.
I think I need a spanner to set the bearing preload?

Also what do you think about spool in IFS front?

Thanks

I think a spool in either is torture on a rig... As far as in the front make sure you twin stick it or prepare to unlock one hub on every turn you want to make... Look into a quick lock man, especially if you drive thsi rig on the road.. Just my 2 pennies.. HTH

ZUK has all the information you need for installation. I would never spool the IFS, you'll break something every time you drive. They are fine for the rears (I will be doing mine).

i have an aussie in the front, and i could not imagine a spool in the front. it is a hand full turning with it. why do you want to spool the front?

Thanks guys for your reply.

Here is how I got this idea for V6 rear.

1) I was thinking welding rear diff.
find out V6 rear is rather time consuming to do it, unlike 4cyl rear.

2) Then consider Aussie - no V6 rear is available, Lock right which many people love it. however, there is inconsistent engaging = some scary story from people.

3) Spool - same effect as welded. - always engaged, more predictive.

For front.

1) want ARB air locker = too expensive
2) Aussie - good - still thinking.
Spool - just curious about opinion form others.

I want max off road capability with $$$.

Thanks

The spool in the rear is fine, but the front will cause way too much stress on the ifs components and cause things to break, plus with regular steering - you won't be able to turn the wheel with 4wdd engaged. Go aussie or lock rite.

Thanks for the info. which mean nobody has spool in front.
Must be a reason for it so it was crazy thought.

Welding worse for the V-6 than the 4cyl?

Mind posting up where you read that?

Originally, I was told by local guy who set up gears and lockers on trial rigs.
Accoring to him, 4cyl 8" he can weld about 15min. at most 30min.
However, V6/Turbo 8" rear is hard to get to the area need to be welded.
Therefore, he needs to disassemble the 3rd and weld.

I am not 100% because I have never done it, but I heard more than this guy so I assume that is the fact.

Also one memeber kind of saying same thing from follwing thread.

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f31/...-third-128507/

Please let me know if you have different experience or method to make it V6 rear welding as easy as 4cyl.

Thanks
