Well just put my lockright together on my front diff (4.56) and I have a couple of questions.
There are spacers that go on the inside of the collars that look like steel bushings with an inward-flanged end. Does the smaller opening end face inboard or does the larger opening end?

The center pin on mine did not slide in easily (I took it apart and inspected it 3 times and read and reread the instructions) but the instructions said its ok to tap it in? Did anyone else have to tap theirs in?

The clearence between the two halves is correct (.155") but it does not "rotate freely" like the instructions said it would. Infact it really doesnt move at all. Is this normal? I called tech support and the guy told me "sumthin mus be messed up" with a real southern draw so I am turning to you guys. Sorry this turned out to be so long.

Wish I could help, but I'm one of "those people" with a southern drawl.

 

I installed one in my rear V6 third. I now have another one in my front V6 third. However I since I have v6 thirds, there is no tapping of the crosspin since mine is an actual crosspin "+" since V6 thirds have 4 pinions.

 

The V6 LR is a completely different animal as its missing the 2 side gears compared to the 4cyls.

My LR that I have in the front diff of my truck is almost identical. As you can see the smaller hole in the spacers faces inward. The larger out side hole in the spacers has to go over the end of the side gear for alignment purposes. The idea is that the most surface area has to be against the cross pin.

I suspect that your cross pin didn't slide in easily because the inner spacers where pointing the wrong way so there was not much clearance.

I'm not sure that a LR will ever rotate freely. I need to turn mine at the tire level to get any movement (same with the aussie in my friend s runner). Trying to move an axle with a spring loaded LR is not going to happen. In fact you almost need to turn one tire back a bit while moving the other forward to get any diff action and all you really get is a clunky ratchet action.

 

thanks ganoid. My spacers are installed just like the ones in your pic with the smaller opening facing inboard. However I would not be able to get a feeler guage of any size inbetween the crosspin and the spacer like that. Mine are too tight.

Keep in mind that this is going in a front diff. Are the v6 and 4cyl front diffs different? If so maybe I got the wrong part?

The V6 and 4cyl REAR lockrights are different from each other as well as the from the IFS ones

 

So does that mean that all fronts are the same?

yes the front 86-95 Toyota IFS Lockrights are all for the 7.5" ring gear. I imagine that the Tacoma front Lockrights are the same as well since they changed the design of the case to a clamshell but the innards (I believe) are still the same.
