Question about FJ80 coils

Before I get told "do a search" I have done plenty from fj 80 coils to lc coils to sagging rear end 2nd gen. I have read alot about them but nothing complete or itemized that answers questions relativly quickly.

What does "the short side" mean as far as the fl80 coils are concerned?

Is it the rears from a fj80 that you use on the 2nd gen 4 runners or the fronts?

What is the difference between rears and fronts? (ie: size, ID, OD, length, spring rate, Lift etc..)

Would i have to find 2 different fj80's to get a pair of short side coils? (if short side means one of the axle sides)

The cruser coils for the 2nd gen 4runners are from the rear of the FJ80. There is a long side and a short side. When I installed mine it leaned slightly, so I got another set and replaced the short side with another long side.

With BJ spacers, my truck sat just slightly higher in the back.

I think 2 short side coils would work well for yours. The dofference between the short and long side is about 1-1.5 inches.

I have the short side coils in my garage, if you are interested in them PM me.

Here is how mine looked with BJ spacers and cruiser coils

PM sent. Used to live in Del mar and Rancho penasquitos. Had a glass shop on clairemont and convoy.
I built my race truck in san marcos, great area. The wife and I are moving back in the spring.
Thanks for the input on the springs.

Marc is correct you want to use the rear fj80 coils. I got some from a '97 cruiser and there was hardly any difference between the short and long side. Once on the vehicle the differenc was only 1/4 in. between sides. It seems that there are many different springs out there. I may have just gotten lucky and got a set that was fairly close. I think you can get matched sets from slee offroad. I have heard that the lexus ones have a tendency to be softer than the 80 coils, so I would stay away from those ones. Sometimes you can find a whole set and sell the front ones to the third gen guys and make some of your money back. Here is a before and after pic:

after w/ bj spacers:

Ha, ha, nope we still can't agree on crap! They actually started construction and then quit. They had already bought all the sewer line, funniest thing they were having a huge sale on pipe! Rims are just spraypainted with duplicolor wheel paint from autozone. How are you digging the other coast?

If you want to actually make use of the 4" lift, then yes you will need longer shocks. I forget the P/N's for Rancho's but I'm sure they're flying around here somewhere. I hope someone will post up b/c I busted one of my rear Trailmaster's and plan on going w/ Rancho's next.
