Some interesting taurus fan mod info. . . (to me at least)

So I did the taurus mod, pretty standard stuff all I did to make it fit was added about 4-5" on the bottom of the shroud so it completely covers the rad. Anywhoo once I got it running It immediately became apparent that the fan I got fron the wrecker was poop, the bearings were shot and it would freeze up on the low speed and draw a ton of electricity on high speed. Luckily I only paid $15 for the fan and the wrecker gave me a 90 day warrentee, unluckily they didn't have any more 3.8l tauruses with fans. Needless to say I was pretty pissed so I walked around the yard looking for something that might work.

I was halfassed looking under the hood of an 1.9l escort and noticed that the fan motor looked familiar, upon closer inspection I was confident that the fan motor was the same. I convinced the guy at the desk to let me try it, turns out I was right. The motor works like a charm just 3 bolts and a standard puller to swap the fans themselves and its a go.

I would imagine that you could use the escort fan and shroud to do this mod however the shroud itself would deffinately need some serious modification to fit on the Toyota rad and the fan fron the escort is smaller in diameter by about 1". Either way there were more escorts in the yard then Tauruses and I doubt many people know about this.

what isnt so appernt is that 1" at the outer diamter (were the fan blades are moveing fasted and moveing the most air) althought it doesnt sound like a lot, can have a significant impact on the volume of air that is moved through the radiator.

Yea I think the escort fan had more fins, I'll have to dig through the trash and check it later. Anyhow the point is that you can use the motor.
