1994 pickup intermittent power loss, restarting will immediately reset?

 

to expand on my question above, 1994 pickup with only 65K miles, will lose power while driving. if i pull off, kill the engine and immediatly restart, all is well until the next occurence, which could be a few days later.

no check engine light, no error codes

When you mean power loss, are you talking about engine power or electrical power?

 

Engine Power - it will be in 5th, and then just begin to slow down, as if it is not getting fuel

 

Your description makes it sound like there is something restricting fuel flow. Did the vehicle sit unused for a long period?

 

Here is my thought. Your fuel filter is clogged (cheap fix). or the fuel line is kinked / rotted / sludged and needs to be replaced. Can also be the fuel pump over heating or just plain wore out.

I went to -6AN hose & fittings to solve my fuel problems. Not cheap at all and requires planning. I cut the fuel line at the fitting with a hacksaw. Drilled out a -6an fitting to just squeak over the steel line and glued it in place with JB weld. Ran hose like a race car. Should be an extensive write up I did a while ago on this Mod. If you cannot find it let me know I'll try to re-post it.

Now my understanding of the '94 fuel system is that you have to drop the tank or take off the bed to get at it. Now a deluxe fix is to go with a Holley in tank fuel pump and teflon hose with -6an fittings right to the fuel rails. You may never touch it again going that way.

Another item is the small diameter wires Toyota used on these trucks. You may just have a kinked wire and high resistance going out to the pump. Or the ground wire is shot or has an issue.
