Looking for ideas

My Toy has 220307 mi on it , A/TM G144/A340H , MADE IN JAPAN , NO. 660 , I don't get good power going up hill I noticed that if I push peddle to floor it dogs down , but if I just keep peddle up a little it will shift but it takes awhile , sounds like it is not shifting then it kicks in after a why'll , also when going from 55 to 60 it will shift at about 57 and take off up to like 70 , till I back off or down shift a bit and then it drops back down to like 55 , Is there a sweet spot between 55 and 60 ? I don't , I like the Truck and want to keep it its a 1995 extacab with the 3.0 . any ideas on up grades or anything ? I have read that some of you guys say to go to a 5 speed , any input wound be helpful. Thanks for you input.

You have a engine with over 200,000 miles with 3.0 engine

Match that with a Automatic transmission .

It is not a Power House to start.

Now define just what you mean by a Hill

My 4Runner 22Re 5 Speed 235/75/15 tires @ 250,000 miles feels like it runs into a wall at a slight grade I Get passed by Bicycles

Coming up the hill to my Driveway I need to be in second gear

I will not drive it on the Interstate

I am not sure but it seems your looking for V8 performance out of your little 6 cylinder

You want more power in the hills change the gears always a trade off it will increase your cruising rpm

I have a friend that had a 89 dlx extra cab, v6 auto. Toyota replaced his engine at 120k under head gasket recall. When he still had it it had about 200k on it. My pickup is a 90 sr5 5spd, 4.56 gears, 31/10.50 tires and has now 201k on it. When he had his mine had about 180k on it. He had not maintained his pickup like I do mine, but it was still in good shape. My pickup would run off and hide from his. I'm sure his gearing was 4.30 vs. my 4.56 so that would make a little difference, but the biggest difference has to be the 5spd vs. the auto. I always wondered how good these autos were after 200k. On the flat driving the speed limit, he would stay right with me, but when it started to get hilly, I would run off a leave him and never come out of 5th gear. These are Oklahoma hills, not Colorado mountains. I always figured it was the auto trans.

I am also hoping that you keep the vehicle in good tune !!

That your plugs, wires , cap and rotor the air filter have all been changed in the hope of a better running truck .

Timing adjusted Throttle body cleaned .

Put the truck on a diet any extra weight degrades performance I know it is easy for me to have 1000 pounds of extra weight pretty quick

Does this have the ADD system or manual Hubs I can tell a difference with my hubs locked in

That looks like quite a lot of work that searching !!

Maybe a explanation just what the Search Function does a few to many might not know what the word means !!!!

Much Easier to have someone else do the work.

As for as shocks it all depends just How your using the vehicle

We all know the auto transmission is a liability. Many other smaller factors like egr system, fuel injectors. But bottom line without getting a "valve job" you might be pissing in the wind. I have the V6 and after the valve work, it soars up hills in 3rd or 4th gear depending on speed and grade. It's night and day almost.
