Put seals in steering gear how much play in steering wheel

I just replaced the seals in my steering gear on a 91 4runner. If I hold my hand at 12 oclock on the steering wheel I can turn it over to 3 before I feel strong resistance. I tried to put the adjusting screw and nut on the steering gear back to the original position. I took a picture before I took it apart. I am just curious if someone would test their steering wheel for me and tell me what the amount of play they have is.

Thanks.

I believe the FSM states 1.1" of play, or less,at the rim of the steering wheel is acceptable -- engine off. You may have wear in other steering components. You shouldn't be able to turn it ten inches before it 'catches'.

1-Jack up the front end
2-Loosen the adjusting screw nut
3-Progressively tighten the adjustment until the free play is at a minimum BUT BEFORE YOU GET DRAG IN THE STEERING.
4-Tighten the nut back down whilte holding the adjustment screw in place
5-While you have the truck jacked up, have someone hold the steering wheel while you wiggle the tires and check for play in other steering components (tie rod ends, etc.)

Good Luck!
