Has anyone tried this on a 84-88 pickup or 84-89 4runner? I came across this thread on race dezert and i've been considering it. I know it won't look as good as any of the other generation's body style bed's, but I'm thinking that with a little bondo it could look pretty good.

Pros
-more room for larger tires without lift
-with wider wheel wells you can trim your bump stops to allow for more compression travel. Giving your rear axle more articulation with your stock leaf springs. More flex at stock ride height, which is nice for those off camber moments. Or even just more travel for high speed desert running.
-almost free

Not sure if I can do it on the 4runner, but maybe a good option for you pickup guys

I actually think it looks pretty good. Especially on a desert truck. And it still keeps the kind of stock look rather than the ugly fiberglass ones

 

Hey Pat, you've seen Deathrunner's rig right? That's the way I plan on getting better wheel coverage and clearance when the time is right (i.e. sheet metal cancer finally pisses me off).

or hech .. if theres enough interested parties .. I will convert myself , and make moulds ...

 

It's a shame I haven't seen Deathrunner in person, I've met some of the San Diego Crew just not Seth yet. His looks pretty good, but I'm trying to get away from the rectangular outline one the 1/4 panel. He just trimmed and added fender flares. Ideally I'll just go out and buy flared fiberglass 1/4 panels, but all of the ones I see are for pickups and I'm not sure how they would work with the 4runner's shell.

I like the stock fiberglass bedsides they make, but then your own steel tailgate is not usable? I am at odds why someone has not stamped out a steel version. Yup the wider desert version looks odd.
