Problem: Hard to shift gears.
#127
I have read this thread and was wondering if maybe someone could help me out a little bit. I have an 87 22re that I replaced the clutch in a little more than a month ago. I replaced the master and slave cylinder the same time. My problem, or what I think my problem is, the master cylinder keeps crapping out. I have put 3 of them on there, just got done the third one tonight. It works fine at first, pedal is tight, starts to dissengage about 1-1/2" off the floor. But after 800+- miles, it starts to get hard to shift and progressivley gets worst to the point that there is no pedal (can push it to the floor with my pinky) and of course am unable to shift gears. The reason I think it is the mc is this: I take the line off of the mc, put my finger over the opening and have someone press the pedal and there is not even enuff pressure or just barely enuff to blow fluid past my finger. The first 2 I bought were rebuilt, the 3rd one is from Bap Geon and suppose to be completely new. Could it be that a new pressure plate is causing the rebuilt ones to blow the seals? The one thing I read in this thread that I did not do is bench bleading. I hope I have not messed up the new one.

None that I can find. That was my second thought, first I thought that maybe it just needed to be bled down a little bit more. Bleeding did nothing, so then I thought maybe there was a leak somewhere, searched every thing while someone was pumping the pedal, nothing. The first time it happened, I took the mc off, drained it down and looked inside the resevour thinking maybe there was some trash in it, nothing. Put the mc back on, left the line disconnected and someone push the pedal down, hardly any fluid came out of the side of the mc. So I figured I got the one out of a thousand rebuilt mc's that was faulty and got another. About two weeks later, same exact thing started happening. This time I went to Bap Geon and got a new one instead of rebuilt. I am hoping that fixes the problem. The only thing I can come up with is that the rebuilt ones just can't hold up to the tension or pressure of the new pressure plate.

Just an update to everyone. About 3 weeks after this chaos my slave blew out on the beach down in OBX. But luckily with my new knowledge I was able to jerry rig it to get me to a shop. The tap I put on the bell housing broke and snapped the slave into a V. I paid a shop 150 to fix it and he made a new tap and put in a new slave in a hour, so luckily my beach trip wasn't ruined. Now 6 months later she's had another 2,000 miles and she's shifting fine. Aside from needing a new exhaust system and I need to fix my grill, she's doing great. Just wanted to give everyone closure lol.
