Price check help please......crankshaft regrind?

Finally getting around to pulling the engine out of the 89 4Runner with the 22RE engine. All that's left in the engine bay is the block. Even have the bolts looseend up on the engine/tranny.

Anyway, since I'll be having the block bored and the crankshaft re-worked, this question popped into my head:

The machine shop said they would charge me 100 bucks to turn the crankshaft. I am assuming (love that word!) I would then have to purchase new bearings. I don't know what bearings would cost.

I can call Ted up and have a new crank, with bearings, for around $200 bucks plus shipping.

Which way do I go? Thanks.

With a new crank the rod/main journals are full size, ground crank their all undersize.

New would be the way I'd go.

I only want to rebuild this engine once. Having the reground crank undersize, does this sometimes present a problem? I don't want any knocks or other noises that are bad coming from this engine when it gets all bolted back together.

And thanks.

Go with the new crank and standard bearings. It'll last as long as the original did.

I'm going to email Ted on the crankshaft he sells, but anybody know anything about them? They must be from China at that price, no?

It's an Asian truck. Looking for a domestic crank?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having your crank turned. IT's part of a normal rebuild process.

Nothing wrong with Ted's parts either.

I think turning the crank cost me $150 or so...
