Preventive Maintenance... Starting Issues
92' 22RE 4x4, 185,100 miles. Live in socal, and it's been nice weather.
Issue: Not a biggie but I've noticed in the last week that it takes an extra second or two from a cold start to crank it up. Instead of a "ehhhh, ehhhh...vroooom" it's now a "ehhhh ehhhh ehhh ehhhh ehh....vroooom" haahhahhaa! get it?
So as a result, I seafoamed and then new Cap, Rotor, Plugs, Wires, oil is changed regularly, new battery (7 years old), new coil (replaced original), new fuel filter (replaced original), tranny/transfer and differential fluid changed recently.
Also, in the last month I removed my starter (when replacing fuel filter) and opened it up to check the contacts/plunger, all is working well.
Is something going out on me? I never changed my o2 sensors (live in cali) could that be someting? Maybe fuel pressure lagging to injectors?

My first thought would be the cold start injector, or it's thermo timing switch
Or, maybe you're just sliding the key in and quickly turning to start, without giving the EFI system some time to come online?
Try sliding the key in and turning it to the ignition on position for about 3 seconds, and then turn it to start and see how it does.

Thanks a million, I did as you stated, tuned it on for a second or two then cranked and started right up from a cold start. need to stop being in such a rush...
This board is so much better than another I'm trying to get help for my newly acquired 1990 camry with a 2vz-fe, the only reply i got from that forum was "sell it and get a corolla...." wtf? hahhahaha....
By chance, does our engines CEL give codes by jumping TE1 and E1 with a paperclip? or something similar....and if so, what can I do if the CEL doesn't come on? is there a way of resetting it so it will give me codes? I can't start my camry so I want it to tell me something! hahhaha....

Yup
jumper the TE1 and E1 terminal at the diagnostic port under the hood by the fuse box, and the CEL should start flashing the codes
Take a look in my signature for the FSM for your truck (3rd link down; you can either download a full copy for yourself using a Torrent client like uTorrent, or just view it online without having to download it). It has the procedure for jumping the terminals, and lists the codes/flashes and their corresponding faults
