My pump is leaking on my 92 runner. I was checking out replacing it with a remanufactured one, but my question is, would I be better off having this one rebuilt instead over getting a different one? I have another vehicle so it would be fine if it took a week.
Any opinions on this? thanks

if it's just leaking you can get an o-ring/seal kit at autozone. I just picked one up for my 22r for about 17 bucks. I can only imagine they could find you one as well. I haven't installed it yet but I'll take 17 dollars over the cost for someone else to rebuild my pump any day! Goodluck!

Thanks guys. I called Toyota to see just out of curiousity how much a new pump is, its over 500 bucks so forget that.

I checked in the fsm and it shows step by step how to rebuild it, so I priced the parts at Toyota. Besides the seal kit you need the long and short pins and new pressure hose gaskets and union seat according to the fsm. The parts from Toyota are around 80 bucks so I will probably go that route and do the work myself. Of course if I get in there and find it needs a new vane rotor, air control valve and spring it will cost me more, but no way to know if those parts are in spec until I get it apart. I priced a new pressure hose just to see, I don't think mines leaking but was curious, from Toyota its over 300 bucks! Ouch!

I will update this when I get around to doing it. I'm hoping it all goes well, I really want to keep the original.

just out of curiosity is there anything wrong with it besides leaking? i just hate to see you completely rebuild a perfectly functioning unit when all it may have needed was a $5 seal. definitely do a write-up on it as i'd be curious to see the pics and learn a thing or two but if it's just leaking man replace the seals/o-rings. rubber don't last forever. let us know how it turns out! edit: oops i didn't read well enough. I see now you are just replacing the rubber along with a couple extra parts, have fun!

I just paid $59 for a rebuilt pump from Auto Zone. I have a 1990 4wd v6, sr5, 5speed pickup. The kit has all the gaskets, but no reservoir or pully. Just use your existing ones.

I rebuilt my ps pump with the $20 kit from O'reilly's and it does not leak.

Honestly, I'm not sure the above is necessary.

The job using the FSM and the O'reilly kit took about an hour and no leaks since.

This is a way better option than getting a reman. In general, a rebuilt OE part (whichever part) will far outlast a 'new' reman part.
