A little backstory...
I had a rebuilt 3.slow put in my 4runner late last year. The motor was bought offline and shipped to my mechanics house.

The motor ended up coming from a 2wd, hence the different motor mounts.

Ever since getting the new motor my PS belt is super loose. I've tried adjusting it, getting different sized belts bit it seems like the size I need 47 & 7/8" doesn't exist. I looked up the 2wd belt size as well and it seems to be the same size as the 4wd.

Would there have been any differences in pulley size or anything among the different models?

I'm basically at a loss and can't stand the constant squealing from the belt.
Please help.

Can`t see engine mounts can effect the front of the engine ??

do the 2wd and 4wd take the same power steering pump ??

Unless your mechanic got some pulleys mixed up pretty hard but I guess it could be done .

You are adjusting it correct they can be a pain

loosen the lock nut

loosen the bolt that allows the pump to move

adjust the adjusting rod the direction you need.

Just looking there seems to be quite a lot of adjustment .

I should have clarified.
The motor mounts were swapped out for my 4wd ones. The motor/tranny won't line up with the 2wd mounts.

I'm 99.999% positive I'm adjusting correctly. Even with it adjusted the fully tightened position I have about 3/4"-1" of play on the belt in between the pulleys.

I'm unaware if the 2wd and the 4wd use different ps pumps. I'll have to look that up here shortly.

It is pretty hard to get things mixed up but it happens ..

Get the wrong belt ??

 

Looks like the 2wd PU, 4runner, and t100 all use the same power steering pump on 3.0.

I'm sure I got the correct belt. Hell...I've tried every belt from 47"-48"(4 belts?) I'm perplexed.

 

I am not sure how a 3.0 power steering belt tightens up, but if it is with a pulley and a bolt that tightens the pulley such as the 22 motor, I have seen the pulley assembly get corroded up real good and not adjust as far as it should. There is/should be a lot of movement to adjust the belt. I am comparing it to a 22 so it may not be much help.

 

Thanks for the help so far, dudes. I haven't messed with it for about a week(just been taking wide turns haha). From what I remember I can pivot the unit completely in both directions and still never fully get a tight belt. Anyone have a picture of the engine bay or measurement of the ps pulley?

If you can move things that much that tells me you might have the wrong belt.

 

I have always ended up getting the power steering belt from the dealer, just because of the issues posted. The part # I have been using is 00916-02196-83, not sure on cost, also not sure what the 83 stands for in the part number, possibly length @ 83cm.

Had the same problem and an OEM belt was the fix. IMO aftermarket should always be avoided because of these all too common type problems.

 

Might be the difference between Metric belts and American in sizes available that is giving you your problems
