yes im going to the truck runs awesome still and i only got about 700 in to it so far including the cost of the truck so i will get it down. just wanted to know if i was the only one with this problem or not? just seems strange to me

go get a PS rebuild kit from toyota... then take it apart on your weekend and rebuild it... fill with ATF... problem solved...

btw, bleeder, PS fluid will definately cause the pump, resivoir, AND gearbox to leak and can lead to gearbox failure... i speak from experience...

is rebuilding the factory pump worth it? over buying a remanufactured one? i can buy a reman for 60 bucks at the local auto parts store

Or just find a used one that looks OK. They tend to hold up pretty well. I would personally go that route over a remanned one.

I've gotten 2 bad PS pumps in a row from Advance Auto, but their return policy is great and I did get a good one eventually.

Beware the idle up valve! On my 93' 4runner this little bugger failed big time and I was sucking fluid directly into the intake. I thought the head gasket was gone and lo and behold the idle up valve was the culprit. I plugged the hoses and plugged the valve at the bottom of the pump and couldn't really tell any difference.

no offense but i hate advanced auto parts. i dont know what it is but everthing ive ever gotten from there has been cheap junk? i usually go to o'reilly or napa. but its all about personal preference in the spring i will find the time to fix it. right now i have a four wheel drive engagement problem im trying to figure out now too.

This thread is a couple of months old, but for all those folks (and there are about a million) who have a leaking PS pump, here is a better alternative to an aftermarket rebuilt pump:

Take your time and do a good job (I really believe that an OEM kit is so reasonable that it would be foolish to get an aftermarket rebuild kit) and you'll have a pump that works well for another 15 years.

so your saying buying a new pump is a bad idea? i never rebuilt a PS pump before and i really dont have a great amount of time to make repairs since i started collage. quick and easy is best if i can, however i dont want to take the easy way out and go cheap either. when it comes to my ride, i take good care of it so i can beat the heck out of it on the weekends!

Buying a "new" pump (about $400 from Toyota) would be a great idea, but too expensive. Buying a rebuilt pump from any aftermarket store is a bad idea in my opinion. They will only replace what you could do yourself and they work as fast as they can, not as carefully as they can. Use the FSM and the writeup in the link and do it yourself. You'll do a better job than anyone else. The kit is cheap and the job isn't hard if you do any work on your truck already. The rebuilt pump has the convenience of saving time. yeah seven hours is a long time to invest in rebuilding a pump. for a guy with a full time job and full time collage student i just dont have that kind of time. however i see your point, A1 cardone makes good reman parts but aftermarket is never what they seems to be. i would rather do the rebuild and keep my factory pump. maybe put a cheap aftermarket pump in and rebuild the factory one for when the aftermarket fails!

as far as fluid goes i use chevron iso32 hydraulic fluid, doesnt leak and no longer groans when turning, going on 4 years, as the power steering IS JUST a simple hydraulic circut
