My 93' v6 2wd pickup just blew a head gasket at 450k miles and my mechanic recommended either rebuilding the original motor with the blown HG or picking up a re-manufactured motor. After speaking with Toy Connection in Santa Clara, CA, I decided to pull the trigger on having them put together a motor for me. All new internals (OEM or other Japanese when reasonable). Anybody have any experience with a re-manufactured 3vz-e motor from these guys?

 

Toy Connection is a pretty reputable shop in the santa clara for working on toyota trucks. They know their stuff and I have heard good stuff. I haven't dealt with them much other than buying some used parts since I usually get all my work done at comerson's toy shop http://www.yelp.com/biz/comersons-toy-shop-campbell -- Amazing staff who know these toyota's inside out.

Good luck with your engine. Are you having them install it or just buying a re-built engine?

 

It's a fully rebuilt motor to OEM spec. I'll keep you guys updated. My mechanic is installing it for me.

 

450k on the original 3VZE?? That's impressive man, did you ever have to do any major work to the motor during that time, like say a head job?

 

At 120k had the head gasket replaced, other than that just timing belts. Had the crank seal replaced at around 300k and the OEM seal didn't sit right anymore, had to sleeve the crank.

 

Toy connection is a good place to go to. I got a remanufactured engine once from a Toyota place in San Rafael once too, I forget the name though

 

"3VZE goes 330,000 miles on one head gasket!" That's what the thread title should read then. Atleast there should be a thread about it. Somewhere. You may have accomplished something greater than you think with that. Not to mention no other major engine work having been done in 450k miles. No bearings, rings, valves, nothing? No way?! That's amazing enough to warrant an entire thread too! Give 'er to me, I'll take 'er the rest of the way to a million. Mines got 230k, and it'll take me forever with it. Hell 550k miles would likely take me more gas than I could ever possibly afford in my lifetime(what's left of it anyway).

People dog on this motor all the time but I'm sitting at 250k right now and as far as tearing into the motor goes, I haven't done anything besides a timing belt and water pump (preventative maintenance) and the head gasket was done in '99 by a Yota dealer because of the service campain. The original auto tranny's never been touched either. I'm the second owner and she had all maintenance records . Gotta love the fact that the 3VZE is a non-interference motor too so if the timing belt does go, you're not gonna end up with any damage.

 

So the new motor is in. Plenty of power, sounds healthy - they did a great job getting everything running. A+!

At this point it's a waiting game to see how well the engine holds up over the next few years.
