Question Power Side Views

Im new to this whole thing so forgive me if I don't know how this works. I'm wondering if anyone can help me with my power side views for my 87 pickup? It's an SR5. The mirrors actually work (articulate) but they are shaky as hell and the passenger side has mirror tape over broken glass. Can they be rebuilt by replacing just the glass? Anyone have a set they'd part with? I've checked everywhere I can online and checked national online used/junkyard parts sites with no luck. I've read that removals and reinstall can fix the shaky assembly. Can anyone confirm that? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and I'm happy to be new on this site. Lots of good info so far. Party.

On my 90 there is a hole in the center bottom of each one. You can insert a small phillips screwdriver in the hole and adjust the shaky out of them. Tighten it a little at a time and try it, don't go more than you need as Ive read you can over tighten them. My local glass shop has helped me with replacement glass on other rigs so you might try a glass shop.

Red face

Just know the plastic gears and parts do tend to get old and quite brittle.

This causes them to break quite easy.

Some of the mirror glass just can be replaced .

I have also seen the new mirror glass epoxied to the old broken glass once all the loose pieces are removed

The motor unit (sorry, can't find a picture) is "hung" by plastic loops (part of the injection-molded part). If these break (tightening the screw described by fdp101452 is the easiest way to do that) the mirror will be shaky.

I have had moderate success rebuilding the loops with JB-Weld. (But even JB-Weld, an epoxy, has trouble sticking to most plastics.)

If you ever find a source for replacement power mirrors, i'm willing to put up some reasonable money.

Their 'SteelStik' product works pretty well, but I'd look at an actual epoxy. I've made some really strong plastic bonds with ABS and PLA, stronger than the actual plastic usually. this thread has inspired me to fix my mirrors--after fixing my shaking.

I found a set and just bought them. Pretty pricey but no sure bets on the other options. Once I install the recently purchased mirrors I'll give a go at rebuilding the old ones for a spare set. I'll post some pics once I get that going. Thanks again folks for all the advice.
