Was finally able to get some decent shots of the truck this weekend. Time to share
My 1989 3VZE 4x4 5-spd Manual, only 121k mi on it
Lucked out on this find, only had 2 previous owners. Original owner was the priest at the 2nd owners church who had it for about 20yrs. The 2nd owner bought it as a farm truck and project truck to teach his son how to wrench.
His son decided he wanted a WRX instead of the truck when he turned 16 (his loss, my gain), so it sat in their barn for about 10yrs with some occasional use around the farm before I bought it back in July
Newb here. I guess. To Toyota crawlers anyway. Not to crawlers and definitely not to building custom vehicles.
TRASH PANDA: I picked up this '89 several months ago and have been building the chassis/cage/storage since then, off and on. First photo is how it sits as of today. I just painted the cage this past weekend. Need to to finish modifying the F150 fuel tank, deal with rear shock mounts, bump stops, re-plumb the brakes to eliminate the lever actuator garbage and it will just about be time for reassembly and destroying the whole thing.
Sunk a bed toolbox between the rails for storage.
When the cage was in process.
First time I rolled it outside after everything was tacked together.
Front down-tubes go through the fenders, because I'm not a huge fan of exo-cages. So less (visually) is better.
Finishing up before paint. The tubes to the cab go to the shoulder belt harness inside.
First coat of rust encapsulator. Before the black UV coat went on that is in the first photo.
Goofy hood art, because I can't leave ˟˟˟˟ alone.
What I started with. The exo-cage and bumpers were pretty ˟˟˟˟ty fab-wise and design-wise, so they had to go.
I'm here to learn from you guys how to keep this thing going and going and crawling at its best. Thanks in advance for your help.
