OK on one side of my truck, on the bed fenders the spot welds are rusted through, and on both sides the seams are rusting some. So I would take a section of say a r runner side and mount over that section on mine as I had marked. Not as a flare but flush like stock, painted the same color, or red bedliner. I would also do something to front in kind, so as not to have a lopsided look. I know its hard to visualize, I just started thinking it through.

 

Yea I would grind rust out and cover so to speak.
