that's what I run, I recommend it to anyone. It turns out great with 33's, mine are 10.5 though cause I like the pizza cutter look.

You happen to have any pics you can post up?? I have this set up ready to go in. Wondering what she'll sit like...a little food for thought while I find a day to get under the rig.
Cheers!

Getting back on track to the thread.

So you know what's achievable with an IFS with standard A Arms here's my specs:

2nd gen import from Japan (to Australia).
Procomp Stage II - 4" lift with bumpstop modifications & 1.5" BJ & diff drop spacers.
Standard torsion bars (operating well outside their designed range).
Revalved long travel Bilsteins up front, Procomp gas rear.
King Springs Landcruiser coils in the rear with polair bags.
Running A Arms flat to give maximum downward articulation.
32" Toyo tyres on 16" rims.

Standard car ramps don't even put me on the bumpstops as you can see from the simple ramp pics. Bigger ramp gives the picture. Swaybars disconnected for these flex images. It's flexible and extremely pleasant to wheel off and on road which was my goal.

For those interested there's more to come as I am currently modifying the rear upper control arms with swivelling centres for even greater rear articulation.

For the stats they provided for different ramp angles :
IFS -----------------------------------Front-------Rear
30 Deg -------------------------------459---------478
25 Deg -------------------------------543---------565
20 Deg -------------------------------671---------699

If you've got IFS might as well use it. Images tell the story...

Quick question, do any of you guys have problems with your wife/girlfriend getting into the truck? My wife says she hates trying to get in, and that I need to put some running boards back on. I want to install sliders. She could use the slider as a step, right?

My girlfriend has trouble, but I think she loves it. She for sure likes to drive it!

Darrie, that is amazing, makes me rethink a bracket lift...

I had nurf bars and replaced them with sliders. My wife is only 5ft and always had problems getting in. When I had the sliders installed, I kept them level instead of placing them on the normal looking slant upwards. They work out great for both of us.

Haha yeah my girlfriend has trouble cause she's only 4"10' but she loves it too. And luckily she doesn't like nerf bars like me so she's not putting any pressure on me to get any.

I've got a 5' wife & she's afraid of heights !! You can imagine how she feels getting into the vehicle that has sport seats. She doesn't like driving it as she is "too high". She did however master getting in and out when I showed her the grab handles above the entry point and on the forward pillar. If you have a base model 4runner with no grab handles time to shop at the auto recyclers.

In fact I found the overhead one so handy for getting in & out the passenger side that I retro fitted a passenger side overhead handle from a wreck onto the drivers side ( same part fits both sides ) - bonus was the handle mounting points were on both sides of the vehicle. The drivers side doesn't normally have this handle - possible because it may be seen as a head clunker getting in, but having a lifted vehicle you don't seem to have an issue as you are climbing "up into it" and have your hand on it at the same time.

Well worth the few bucks it cost me.

I have the handle over the door on the pass. side. It's just the 2 and a half feet of space between the floorboard and the ground. I was think of mounting some knotted rope in the center for her to pull on kind of like mountain climbing. Would sliders really help? (the entry and egress, I know they will help off-road.)

As running boards make a big difference not having them or sliders to step on appears to be your basic issue. Rope sounds challenging - why not roll out one of those commando climbing nets and make it a real challenge !!!

I'd say if you go tubed sliders get a section of rolled tread checkerplate in either steel or aluminium that can be bonded to the top as a step grip. Alternately you can use stick on antislip or even rubber coat like tray liners that just gives you better grip when stepping on it - these will work but will wear out quicker than checkerplate.

If you dont go sliders then there are a heap of aftermarket side steps, some fixed that become a pain offroad & some elaborate like the Rhino SpringStep that lowers down under your weight when you stand on it.

Another method is to design a trailer hitch receiver near the entry point off the chassis rail. Then when needed use that to slide in a step like the beaver step from Smittybilt below:

Hey Oldschool,
If you have a gen 2 with coils you are looking for Standard 80 series REAR springs. They will give approximately 3" of rear lift especially if they are worn in. You will need to have the front sorted with your BJ spacers at the same time otherwise it will look weird. See under the 80 Series section here in Wikepedia for the model numbers you can look for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Land_Cruiser.

But remember buying used is still hit & miss as there are a lot of model variants even with their springs, and even then you don't know if they are original or replaced. If sourcing new springs just look for 80 series rear standard length coils replacements - don't go for taller or Heavy duty springs as it will be too much for the lighter weight of the 4 runner and won't flex, and the BJ spacer lift won't be enough to even things up.

Don't forget you have to install longer rear shocks at the same time... in my mind the procomp ES9000 for a 4runner with 4 " lift is a no brainer for a simple cheap reliable off the shelf solution. Also you will need a longer/adjustable panhard rod or dropdown bracket to keep the rear axle centred, along with longer brake line & BPV (Brake proportioning valve) extension.
