Recently bought a '92 4Runner 3.0 w/ AT. Sat for 7 years, got it running, but had really weird driveablility problems. Really slow acceleration, no power, even for the 3VZE. I had a 3VZE with a manual trans, and it was nowhere near as crappy as this. The engine bay was a cluster of spotted bare wires and mismatched vacuum hoses. My guess, was a shop or previous owner tried to diagnose the problem, but failed. No check engine light.

There are tons of the same question threads with the same 30 possible solutions, some solutions from the fsm, some from personal experience.

Well, I did em all and nothing worked, I thought my trans went to crap. Well, today, I finally went to look at why my gas pedal felt a tiny bit floppy. And I found a split in half rubber piece that the accelerator cable went through. I fixed it with electrical tape and of course I got my throttle response and power back.

So just wanted to share, might save some people time with a simple fix. I don't know why it's there, might be to protect the tranny from sharp acceleration idk.

I had the same thing. Not sure why I even looked under there in the first place, but I quickly realized I was only getting part of the throttle response I paid for.

I fixed it with a piece of heavy duty fuel hose - just split it, put it around the cable, and fastened it with a hose clamp. It's been there for about 40,000 miles now.

No prob, I was lucky that I have a 3.4 swap project with 3.0 parts left over. So the only money I really spent was bypassing the cat with a straight pipe. And that pedal return spring replicates the resistance of the throttle cable, which can really make some people (like me) not even think about looking under there.
