Possible engine swap

Well, I know, SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH, but I am fuggin frustrated with this motor and not to mention my girl went into the hospital last night with life threatening complication... turns out I am going to be a dad, but the baby has positioned itself in a way that it could kill the girl and the baby if they cant fix it

SO anyways, I have an option to dump my 22re and drop in a 289 or even a 302, my buddies dad has both and is willing to sell either one to me for 50 CASH. obviously I would take my time and rebuild the motor to ensure everything is perfect, but my question is, how hard of a swap is that going to be? What all am i going to need, and is it for the most part a direct drop in?

As I said, I know I shoulda searched, but with the circumstances of last night, I am a HUGE mess and on my way out the door to get my happy ass back to the hospital..

appreciate the help

Ian

Keep the 22re, save fuel, keep your reliability, and money!!! not worth it, maybe a lexus v8.

BUT focus on your girl right now!!

I could get a 305 ready to drop in for free and I wouldn't get rid of my 22RE and it just popped the number 4 spark plug again.

FOCUS on your girl. The truck isn't important right now so long as it runs. I hope things work out for you

First off, Hope your girl and new found out baby are ok and get well soon.
2nd- I looked in to doing 302 swap to my 86 but decided againist it because of, engine mounts, if tranny could handle power, knowing stock axles wont handle the power. Check out Xtreme 4X4 build of there Toyota. They swapped a in a 350 i think and had to swap in bigger axles. I'd stick with rebuilding 22re. Better off in long run unless your plan on some hardcore crawling. But a rebuilt 22re with good axles will take you far.
