PLEASE HELP with my 95 4Runner issue - see my video here...

Truck won't start and I'm getting this warning signal when I open the door/insert the key:

Hey guys. I haven't had a chance yet to introduce my "new' 1995 4RunnerSR5 to the forum, but I have lots of info to post as this is a 240K truck that has had a pretty nice overhaul. Lot's of photos and info to come.

I pulled the carpet out of the truck tonight as I will be cleaning and reinstalling in the coming days. Removal went well, reinstalled the driver's seat and seatbelt and went for a spin to hear how loud it sounds without carpet. All that went well. Got home and decided to throw the husky liner in the driver's floorboard and shortly after getting the mat settled under the pedals, this warning signal began. I checked ALL the wiring under the drivers dash and things look okay, but the battery/wiring is disturbed. I really need to get it started to get to work tomorrow....

Has anyone experienced this "warning" with a 2nd gen before, and know how to correct it??

Thanks, Scott

That is an aftermarket alarm on the car. Tear that junk out and put it back to stock. It is very simple to do.

Pull that stupid aftermarket alarm out of there, and try it again.

Someone installed an aftermarket alarm with a circuit interrupt. If you take the lower dash panel off on the drivers side, you will likely find a rats nest of wiring. Cut all that useless crap out of there and fix any wires ruined by careless install "experts"

Thanks guys. I find it hard to believe there was a security system on this thing at one time b/c I've seen no indication of one, but that will give me a starting point in the morning.

Damn - you guys were right. There was a viper security system neatly hiding behind the lower dash. Once I removed a couple ground wires, I was able to start it no problem.

So I continued removing what was indeed a rats nest of wires until I pulled everything aftermarket out. In the end, the truck now won't start again, as I clipped what I believe was a ground wire for the ignition. Gonna have to tow it to someone today who can help.

One problem solved, another created.

lol, well that sucks

best of luck! AM security systems suck to get on a previously owned vehicle... if you're going to have one, it's best to get one and install it yourself

The viper installs most of the time as a plug in with a couple of grounds.Follow the harness from the ignition switch and see if there is a connection with three peices.Normally all connections are male female.Viper and some others use a in between connection and then goes to a control box of some sort.Once you pull this crap out it should start.

For $30 my mechanic got me squared away. We are running again. Thanks for the security system heads up!
