Picked up a 91 4runner!

Picked up this 4 runner that's been sitting behind a dealership in town for a while, tires were badly dry rotted after replacing them it runs and drives pretty well! Seems like it might have a slight tick in the motor, also oil pressure seems a bit low when warm but I could be wrong, I'll take a picture of the gauge here soon. Here's some pictures for now...

Is that at hot idle, or at higher revs??

In any case, the factory gauges are, shall we say, less than accurate.

If there are no untoward engine noises, you are probably good to go.

Only way to really know what the pressures are, is to hook up a mechanical gauge of known accuracy, at least temporarily.

your oil pressure at hot idle is higher than many that I have seen. Mine is just above the L at hot idle but its really just a dummy gauge.

Looks like a good yota you have there. Regarding the oil pressure gauge, mine is like that as well, when the oil is warm its toward that first mark or a bit behind it which is normal.

I believe that is for a snorkel that is no longer there.

Headers?

No the toyota does not leak at all!

And yes the hole is from a previous snorkel.

One thing I wanted to get some input on, is around 35mph the steering wheel starts like vibrating side to side, worst part is around 35mph then gets better as you speed up, but doesn't go away. I took it in for the inspection and they were like oh well there's a little slop here... Little slop here... Yada yada. I've driven trucks before with loose front ends, and they never had the wheel going back and forth before... And the front end on here really isn't loose... Wondering if someone else may have experienced this? Any ideas what it could be?

X2 on tire balance

The vibration you're getting sounds exactly like the one I had. Steering wheel vibrating side to side at 35ish but seems to diminish at higher speeds.

I took it in to get my tires balanced and it turned out I had a separated tire. About to blow.

Better to be safe than sorry, go get them balanced and looked at!!

I guess getting them balanced is the next step, I rotated my tires and it didn't seem to help at all.

I had a wobbling like you describe at 50-65 mph and it went away at all other times, I had the tires balanced and it didn't help, I ended up replacing the idler and Pittman arm

So since I bought this rig, it seems like when it warms up after a bit of driving it's been getting harder to shift since I bought it, still not bad but noticeable... I was gonna change the trans fluid online I read it takes 2.3 quarts of 75w90 gear oil, can I use any 75w90 gear oil or does it need something specific?

Nope just regular ol 75w90 gear oil will do. But make sure it's gl4 rating.

Cool thanks for the reply, I ended up noticing after getting home from wheelin last night that my clutch fluid was quite low, below the minimum line, so I topped it off I'll have to see if that has helped with the shifting.

I recommend Redline MT90, if you're having problems shifting. Do a search on that for more info..

And who makes "MT90"? Is that someone's special product or just a different weight?
