Hey guys
I've been looking online and can't find a pic that's useful... I need a good picture of a stock 2nd gen V6 air filter box and the hoses that run to it... preferably an auto.
I'm wanting to rip out the old one and put in something better, but my truck is from japan and I'm fining more and more things that are just a little different from the 4Runners, and I'm thinking this is one of them.

... maybe I should've put this in the newbie section.. *shame*

For the ISR mod, just deal with everything that connects behind the AFM. The PCV breather and the "intake silencer" are the only lines you need to concern yourself with. If you aren't going to remove the resonator on the air filter box, and/or the entire air filter box too that is.
I've never seen an air filter box with the resonator on the bottom/side, and with a VSV bolted in it's place on top like that. That is a bit strange. I can tell what it is though. It's the VSV for the part with the screw looking piece next to it, the A/C IACV.
That's the input/ouput lines that run into/out of the PS IACV. Also, very strange placement of it. Never seen one of those setup like that either.
My question is:
How does that resonator on the side of the air filter box, normally positioned where the VSV is above it, connect to the air filter box so it can recieve filtered air? Is it connected to the other resonator/"silencer"? Or are they just one piece instead of two seperate pieces, like the ones we have are???

It's right hand drive...everything is in some place weird.. including the driver..
Just want to be clear, what's VSV? "IACV" = Idle Air Control Valve? (I'm horrible with abbreviations)
looking at it all now, I think I've got it figured out...
Rip out the silencer (blue) and run a new line from circled bit to the new intake pipe.. that and the PCV line and I should be good, right?

Yes, that should do it then.
VSV = Vacuum Switching Valve.
It's an electronic valve that, when signalled by the ECU to open, allows vacuum pressure transmission through it. In this case the vacuum pressure, or lack of it, controls the actuation of the A/C Idle Air Control Valve. Which when opened allows a measured amount of air flow to be redirected to the intake plenum chamber raising the idle speed by a set number of rpm. Which is why an IACV is also sometimes refered to as an "idle up valve".
