parts that are cheaper from the dealer
Oil filters and air filters are pretty competitively priced compared to the local parts store. That said, if you want a new, complete 22RE from the dealer, its going to set you back $17,000 (no, that's not a mistake).
What parts have you found are cheaper from the dealer?
Any idea whether ball joints or tie-rod ends are priced competitively? Headlights?

It's easy enough to remove out and give it a once-over look. One electrical plug and 2 screws under the dash on the passenger side. That's all it was on my 91 anyway; I'd imagine it should be the same before and after that year though, I don't see why they would have changed it or its location

I would think that all of the routine mantainence things would be pretty competitively priced (like filters, plugs, maybe even cap, rotor, and wires), but when it comes down to the wire on something that's absolutely critical for the vehicle and it's something that Toyota knows you'll have a hard time getting brand new anywhere else, they'll jack the prices up accordingly
I don't blame them though, the parts last a loooooong time; just ask my motor

Um, there are parts cheaper at the dealer?
I thought i lost a certain vacuum line that is part of the egr system i think, and cause it has a bend in the hose the dealer wanted like $140 or something ridiculous. Went to napa and got a generic hose for under $2.

but mind you, that does not mean that the generic replacement is not as good as the part Toyota wanted $140; I bet the hose you bought works great, it's just that it doesn't have TOYOTA printed on the side of it
